The Pretty Reckless and Marilyn Manson

It’s a match made in….well…I’ll let you fill in the blank.  Marilyn Manson recently announced he will be heading out on tour and releasing a new album, but none of the official press releases gave any other info besides that.  I found out that Taylor Momsen’s The Pretty Reckless is set to open for the dark, Gothic, rocker for a handful of his tour dates.  The band also released a brand new video for “You” off their debut album, Light Me Up.   The video is directed by Grammy-winning director Meiret Avis and is about a post break-up and remembering the happier times in the relationship.  Check the video and tour dates with Marilyn Manson below.

The Pretty Reckless’ “Make Me Wanna Die” Still Making a Splash on iTunes after Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

the pretty reckless light me up coverNearly a week after their single “Make Me Wanna Die” opened up last Tuesday’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, The Pretty Reckless is still holding strong in the top 10 on the iTunes Rock charts, after climbing to the #3 spot last week.  Their album Light Me Up has been a mainstay on the iTunes Rock section since its official release in February, and reached #11 last week.

Taylor Momsen and her band recently finished a 3 show stint opening up for Guns N’ Roses, and just returned from a North American and European tour with Evanescence. The band will head to Australia in early 2011 for a string of dates with the Soundwave Revolution Festival.

Taylor Momsen: From Gossip Girl to The Pretty Reckless

The Pretty Reckless featuring Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl
The Rave – Milwaukee, WI

Taylor Momsen The Pretty Reckless

When I heard Taylor Momsen was starting a singing career I kinda puked in my mouth. My thought, “Another cute actress that thinks she’s got the chops to sing…great!” (please note the sarcasm). It’s reality stars like Kim Kardasian that put that bad ‘actor turned singer’ taste in my mouth. Can you blame me? After I cleared the puke in my mouth and listened to the music, I realized she wasn’t half bad. Then she hit the stage over at Lollapalooza this summer to a packed crowd. Even thought we covered Lolla I didn’t get a chance to sneak to the stage to see her and now I am thinking maybe I should have tried harder.

The Pretty Reckless is currently opening for Evanescence on tour, another great sign for the band. The crowd loved her and quite frankly she’s not one to just stand on stage and sing. As in real life, Taylor steals the scenes and the stage. She was in constant motion, and she looked like a thrasher ballerina at times doing pirouettes. Taylor has the look to keep the male audience’s attention as she was in a white teddy with thigh-high white leather lace-up boots.  Can’t really get any sexier than Momsen was on Friday night.

They played their set that included the Audioslave cover “Like a Stone.”  It was touch and go with the cover, of course, I am a die-hard Chris Cornell fan and no one compares to him, so I am a little more critical of others covering his work. Taylor’s voice hit the chorus dead on, but when Chris goes low, he really goes low, and Taylor just doesn’t have that range.

Taylor’s The Pretty Reckless isn’t straight up pop.  Performing live, Momsen sounds like she’s channeling Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Linda Perry. It’s a very alternative pop sound. Now since Taylor Momsen essentially was pushed out of Gossip Girl, she decided to take The Pretty Reckless on full-time so definitely be on the lookout for more music and touring from The Pretty Reckless.

BMI Presents & Sponsors Festival Stages at Lollapalooza & Austin City Limits Music Festival

19 must-see, hear-it-first performers, including The Pretty Reckless, Christina Perri, and Skylar Grey, to converge in Chicago for a memorable three-day lineup of performances

The BMI/Lollapalooza stage, a superstar forecaster, has been a launching pad for performers such as Neon Trees, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, and Semi Precious Weapons

NEW YORK, June 15, 2011 – Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), the U.S. performing right organization that represents over 475,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers, is proud to present the performers on its 2011 Lollapalooza stage. Running August 5, 6, & 7 at Grant Park’s Hutchinson Field in Chicago, IL, BMI’s stage will kick off performances at 12:00 p.m. each day, setting the pace at the mammoth music festival.

Festival-goers seeking an eclectic lineup and a bucolic respite from the Chicago heat flock to the BMI Lollapalooza stage, known for emitting disco-dunked sounds, acoustic balladry, and pop-rock rhapsodies from a slew of singer/songwriting acts. Performers on this year’s BMI stage range from the swaggering attitude of The Pretty Reckless to the Aussie exports Boy & Bear; the genre-jumping of The Chain Gang of 1974; and the expressiveness of siren Christina Perri. The lineup will provide a blend of sounds, reflecting Lollapalooza’s wide-ranging approach in offering attendees performances that are unique and remarkable.

The Pretty Reckless Release Album And Acoustic Performance

The Pretty Reckless will be celebrating the physical release of their debut album, Light Me Up, today at Best Buy Union Square in NYC.  “Not since Saint Joan of Jett first grabbed a guitar has hard rock sounded this sexy,” proclaims the New York Post in a review published today. Visit the band’s official website for more details on their schedule including another performance and signing at Looney Tunes in Long Island this weekend.

Check out a new stripped down performance of their song “Just Tonight” off of the album from a recent session at The Cherrytree House.

Sounds Pretty, You Reckless.

The Pretty Reckless
Light Me Up

The Pretty Reckless Light Me UpI bet I am exactly who Taylor Momsen would prefer listen to her music. I’ve never seen an episode of Gossip Girl, I don’t care to, and I can safely bet my life on it that I never will. No offense to Taylor, or any show groupies, but I already have an extensive tv show schedule and there just isn’t room for anymore. Being that I never saw the show that Taylor is an actress on, nor can I recall her in the Grinch movie as a kid, I am fully able to only know her as a musician in a band, playing music. It seems, this is how she would prefer to be known. There are a lot of actors who moonlight with singing, then return to acting as their cash cow. For Taylor, this seems to be reversed. Music is her calling, and acting is just her current meal ticket. Taylor casually dances around the “leaving Gossip Girl topic” by consistently saying how supportive the show is by writing her out of lines, yet anyone can see that her dream is to do this music thing, full time. Taylor will turn 18 this summer in July. She is still, only, 17! She has a lifetime ahead of her to polish new rock songs and fulfill her rockstar dream. Judging by the quality of the band’s debut album, it’s a good sign that Taylor will easily see those dreams come to fruition. [Read more…]
