FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS ADD THIRD SHOW AT METRO NOVEMBER 22

Due to popular demand, Fitz and the Tantrums will play a third show at Metro! Tickets for the first two shows announced (November 19 and November 20) are already sold out, but fans will have one more opportunity to see the band on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Tickets to this show will go on sale this Saturday October 22 at noon at the Metro Box Office and online at metrochicago.com and etix.com.
In just a few years, soulsters Fitz and the Tantrums went from the living room to the main stage. Their recipe for meteoric success is six killer musicians, five dapper suits, irresistible songs, some serendipity and one vintage organ. Since their first show at Hollywood’s Hotel Café in December 2008, Fitz and The Tantrums have toured with Maroon 5, played to thousands at Colorado’s world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre, shared the stage New Year’s Eve with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and performed on KCRW’s esteemed show, Morning Becomes Eclectic – all this on the strength of their stellar five-song EP, Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1. For some bands, it takes a lifetime to build this success, but few performers deliver an unrestrained blast of soul-clapping, get-down-on-the-floor, moneymaker shakers like Fitz and the Tantrums. Since the release of their debut full length, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, the troupe is even more poised get down in dancehalls across the universe, and recently played to thousands of adoring fans in Chicago at Lollapalooza.

METRO AND UNCOMMON GROUND ANNOUNCE SUSTAINABLE SOUND SERIES
Metro and Uncommon Ground, neighbors in Wrigleyville for twenty years this summer, will partner for a new music series focused on local artists beginning this spring. The first event on Saturday March 5 at Metro will feature Chicago bands In Tall Buildings, Cloudbirds and Algebro plus a special cabaret stage sponsored by Intelligentsia coffee, supplier of Uncommon Ground’s house blend coffee & espresso, featuring the artists Sad Brad Smith and Bone and Bell. Tickets are on sale now at the Metro website and in person at the box office.
It is rare for any business to survive two decades, but even more unusual to find two independently owned small businesses thriving, growing, and working together to enhance the local arts and culture of a neighborhood. Beginning when Uncommon Ground opened in Wrigleyville in 1991, Metro and Uncommon Ground shared a unique relationship and commitment – not only to the neighborhood they shared, but also to nurturing and supporting local musicians. The two venues have collaborated numerous times over the years, most famously for Uncommon Ground’s annual Jeff Buckley tribute events. [Read more...]
It’s with great pleasure that we announce that the Empty Bottle’s New Year’s Eve show featuring Big Freedia & the Divas, Nobunny, DJ Rusty Lazer and DJ Wildcard will be offering support to Chicago’s extremely deserving Howard Brown Health Center.
For more than 36 years, Howard Brown Health Center has been providing care, preventing illness, conducting cutting-edge research and safeguarding the health of the LGBT Community of Chicago. For more than 18 years, the Empty Bottle has been bringing the best music to Chicago and prides itself on being fiercely loyal to the city (heck, they even bank at the MB across the street!).
The Empty Bottle is proud to be a lifeline to the Howard Brown Health Center and will donate a portion of the proceeds from their NYE show with Big Freedia – the Queen of Sissy Bounce and a pioneering member of the New Orleans bounce scene – to continue their ability to provide lifesaving services to the LGBT community of Chicago. $1 from every ticket sold will go directly to the HBHC and will be matched by Living Philanthropic, a remarkable project launched as “an ordinary guy’s guide to giving back every day.” TicketWeb is knocking $1 off their ticketing fees on this show and have placed an option to offer a $5 donation to the Health Center when tickets are purchased. Presenters of the show, 312/Goose Island, have also joined the cause and have pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds made from the sale of 312 for the night directly to the HBHC.

Empty Bottle Events & News
Empty Bottle will welcome Peaches back to Chicago performing her one-woman-show Peaches Christ Superstar. As the title suggests, the show is “Fuck the Pain Away”-Peaches performing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. Peaches performs every part – from Jesus to Judas to the disciples – and she’s aided in this endeavor by Chilly Gonzales – a piano virtuoso and rap entertainer. The performance enjoyed critical acclaim and sold out crowds when it debuted in Europe and the inaugural US tour kicks off this weekend before rolling through our chilly city on Dec 14. Press has already started rolling in – Bust has a pretty substantial feature on the iconoclastic performance here and there’s a trailer that really helped me wrap my head around the whole thing that I highly recommend you peep here. Should be one heck of a performance.

Late night on Saturday the Bottle will welcome Windy City Soul Club as they celebrate their 2 year anniversary. They made a nice little promo vid for the night and by some tricks of lighting or something, manage to make the Bottle look just lovely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FahOJuu2pU0

SECOND YEASAYER SHOW ADDED DECEMBER 30, EXCLUSIVE MIXTAPE NOW AVAILABLE
Due to demand, Metro has added a second Yeasayer show on Thursday, December 30, 2010. Fans can start their New Years celebrations one day early with this additional show. Tickets to the newly announced show are on sale now for $21 advance, $24 day of show. Heath will open the show, which is 18 & over and starts at 9pm.
Since the release of their critically acclaimed 2007 debut All Hour Cymbals, Yeasayer has been around the world and back again. Known for their psychedelic visuals during live shows, Yeasayer built a reputation for inspiring performances that always leave the audience wanting more. Inspired by musicians hell-bent on sonic experimentation as well as those more comfortable in a pop context, Yeasayer find their domain spanning across the musical spectrum. Their second album, the recently released Odd Blood, plays out at a blistering pace, yet it never sacrifices depth or content. One thing is certain: Yeasayer are accomplished audiologists who are willing to pilfer decades of pop sensibilities and cultural history to create something that is uniquely their own.
FRANKIE KNUCKLES HEADLINES SMART BAR ON THANKSGIVING EVE
Start the Thanksgiving holiday weekend off right with the legendary Frankie Knuckles spinning at Smart Bar on Thanksgiving Eve! Tickets are on sale now.
Few figures in contemporary music have influenced their respective fields the way Frankie Knuckles has revolutionized dance music. As one of the most renowned DJ’s in the world, Frankie Knuckles is still packing dance floors with his unique style for almost 30 years. Legions of admirers during his travels penned Frankie’s nickname “The Godfather of House” and the press picked up on it and made it stick. He has played a pivotal role in the creation and evolution of “house” music, which has become the dominant staple of dance clubs throughout the world.
As a Producer and Re-Mixer, Knuckles has lent his talents to some of R&B and Pop music’s elite, including artists such as Mary J. Blige, Sounds of Blackness, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Michael Bolton and Toni Braxton. Frankie’s production and mixing career was officially recognized by the music industry in 1997 when he became the first ever recipient of a Grammy for “Remixer of The Year”. In 2004, he released a thirteen-track album of original material – his first in over a decade – entitled A New Reality, which was critically well received. In 2005, Knuckles was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievement as a DJ. He is also featured in the 2006 documentary film, “The UnUsual Suspects – Once Upon a Time in House Music” by Chip E. and the 2005 documentary film, “Maestro” by Josell Ramos. [Read more...]
