The Cab RBL

Alex DeLeon (lead vocals)

Back in July was the last time I saw The Cab live in concert. The show was at the House of Blues in front of roughly a thousand people. I was impressed enough with what I saw to buy the band’s debut album Whisper War. The songs written by this fivesome from Las Vegas are pretty catchy and the record was produced in part by Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy; therefore, Whisper War was a good investment. The second time I saw The Cab perform was when they opened the Chicago stop of the Rock Band Live Tour. Now the guys were performing in front of almost four thousand fans opening for Panic At The Disco in an arena out in the suburbs. Quite a difference from Chicago’s HOB back over the summer opening for The Hush Sound.

Not much has changed with The Cab, but that is to be expected seeing as how they are still on tour promoting their first record, featuring 12 songs. However, there were two things I noticed this time around that must have went over my head the first time I saw the band. Upon my first glimpse of Alex Marshall (piano/vocals) walking on stage, the only thing going through my mind was that he looks EXACTLY like Zac Efron. No joke! Alex M. and Zac Efron could pass for identical twins. Did anybody else notice this at the show? It blew my mind every time I looked at Alex M. from The Cab. The hair! He even had the same style, cut and color as Zac! So weird – I totally did not notice this similarity before last Wednesday night.

Ok, the second thing I noticed about The Cab was how much of an amazing guitarist Ian Crawford is, which is unbelievable seeing as how young he is! None of these guys are even 21 years old yet. I am going to assume that Ian practiced A LOT over the past two months because his improvisations and solos were KICK ASS! Completely deserving of a standing ovation – which was a given since there were 800 people on the main floor giving him a round of applause after each guitar solo.

I honestly do not remember much of what frontman Alex DeLeon said in between the songs making up The Cab’s 25-minute set. Although, the one thing that caught my attention was Alex’s introduction before the last song of the night “Bounce.” “A lot of our songs are about love. But, this next song is only about one thing: Sex.” Oh brother…
