Delta Spirits debut album dropped August 26, 2008 on Rounder Records. The Delta Spirit is a 5 piece indie rock group from Southern California, whose sound is very reminiscent of the 1960’s. They are being compared to the likes of Violent Femmes and the Waterboys. They have also opened for the likes of Clay Your Hands Say Yeah, Cold War Kids, and Dr. Dog among receiving invites to some of the biggest American festivals such as Austin City Limits.

The Delta Spirit consists of Jonathan Jameson on bass, Brandon Young on drums and percussion, Matthew Vasquez on guitar, sings and plays piano, Sean Walker plays guitar, Kelly Winrich plays piano, hits a drum, sings, hits a trashcan, plays guitar and a high strung guitar. These guys seem to have a great sense of humor too. I was reading an interview with Jonathan Jameson and the interviewer asked him…

“Where in California did the band come together? How did you meet?

We are all from Southern California. Brandon met Matt while he was singing and playing guitar by the train tracks in San Diego. The rest is boring.”

I think that could very well be the most honest and humorous answer. Been around the block a few times interview musicians myself. This one is good.

This entire album was self produced by the band in a cabin in Julian, California. Julian is a really beautiful place, but still recovering from the fires last year, just FYI.
